Freeze Tag transforms the classic playground game into an exhilarating multiplayer experience. Taggers hunt down survivors while survivors try to evade capture and rescue their frozen teammates. With unique power-ups and strategic elements, every match becomes an intense game of cat and mouse.

Core Gameplay

In each match, a small group of players are designated as Taggers (25% of players, up to 4 maximum). Their goal is to freeze all other players by tagging them. Survivors must evade the Taggers and can unfreeze their teammates by tagging them. The game continues for 5 minutes or until all survivors are frozen.

Match Flow

  1. Preparation Phase All players start in a designated area. Taggers are chosen and marked with a red glow. A 20-second countdown begins while Taggers are temporarily frozen.

  2. The Hunt Begins When the countdown ends, Taggers are released to pursue survivors. Survivors must run, hide, and work together to stay unfrozen.

  3. Game Resolution The game ends when either all survivors are frozen (Taggers win) or the time limit expires with survivors still free (Survivors win).

Power-Ups

Strategic power-ups spawn throughout the arena every 30 seconds:

For Survivors:

  • Speed Boost: Temporarily increase movement speed for quick escapes

  • Invisibility Cloak: Become temporarily invisible to evade Taggers

  • Unfreeze All: Instantly rescue all frozen teammates

  • Shrink Mushroom: Temporarily decrease your size to dodge better

For Taggers:

  • Reveal All: Temporarily expose all survivors' locations

  • Turret Golem: Deploy a stationary snow golem that fires slowing snowballs at survivors

  • Shrink Mushroom: Decrease your size to chase through tight spaces

For Everyone:

  • Shield: Protects against one freeze attempt

  • Various other strategic items that can turn the tide of the game

Game Mechanics

Freezing:

  • Taggers freeze survivors on contact

  • Frozen players cannot move but can look around

  • Frozen players appear with a blue glow

  • Taggers maintain a permanent red glow for identification

Unfreezing:

  • Any unfrozen survivor can rescue a frozen teammate by tagging them

  • Frozen players cannot unfreeze others

  • Strategic timing of unfreezing is crucial for team success

Shields and Protection:

  • Shield power-ups provide one-time protection from being frozen

  • Protected players receive a notification when their shield blocks a freeze attempt
